The client

H&L started out as Huntington House and Langham Court, the latter being a purpose-built modern dementia facility created in the grounds of the former, a care home operated by the same family for over four decades. After forty years, the next generation took over the operation of the homes.

The brief

As the next generation of the family took the reigns, it was time to look at how they could remain two separate businesses, while uniting the brands to make better use of combined marketing spend. The brand was in great need of a refresh too, bringing it up to date, and ensuring that the traditional feel of Huntington House sat alongside the modern design of Langham.

The execution

The homes are set in beautiful grounds on a thirty-acre estate in leafy Surrey, near The Devil’s Punchbowl and so we started there. Walking around the grounds is a feast for the eyes and the colours that are ever present, year-round offered themselves as the obvious inspiration for the colour palette. The client wanted to avoid being ‘too traditional’ but still wanted to retain an element of style.

The result

Our designers looked at many styles and settled on inspiration from the early 20th century. The colours were taken from sampling shots of the estate, the geometric shapes being inspired by the work of Russian artist Kandinsky, and the typeface being a nod to the metropolitan styles of the 1930s.

The new brand was then applied to the company’s entire portfolio of marketing materials, from signage, minibuses, the company Land Rover Defender, alongside all the essentials, like the website and the printed materials.

“We're incredibly pleased with our new brand that’s united our two homes. It’s forward-thinking, fresh, modern and unlike anything else in the care industry - exactly what we wanted”
